About Dave

Dave Van Niekerk brings over 20 years of expertise in banking, microfinance, and executive leadership. He is widely recognized across Pan-African markets for founding MyBucks, a fintech company that operated in 13 countries across Africa, Europe, and Australia. As the founder and former CEO of Blue Financial Services, Dave led the company’s expansion into 14 countries, achieving a turnover of R700 million and a loan book of approximately $400 million by 2009.

Today, as CEO of Numeral XII, Dave is channeling his entrepreneurial vision into the biotech sector, with a focus on health, longevity, and regenerative science. Described by Business Day as “SA’s own Branson,” his extensive experience in strategic growth, change management, and operational oversight positions him at the forefront of innovation in both finance and the future of health.

Dave began his career in microfinance in 1997 with Unity Financial Services, where he later became a shareholder and Operational Director. After Unity’s shareholding was sold to Sanlam, Theta, and Boland Bank, it was fully acquired by Theta Investments, which already held controlling stakes in microfinance companies King and Altfin. These entities were merged under the African Bank brand, and Theta rebranded as African Bank Investments Limited.

Dave held senior management roles at African Bank until 2001, when he founded Blue Financial Services, serving as CEO until 2009. Since 2010, he has leveraged his extensive experience to consult for various financial firms, including Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed companies, helping them raise capital, develop new revenue streams, and foster strategic business growth.
